Masterplanning & Urban Design
Val D’Europe, Marne-le-Vallée
France

The City of Val d’Europe welcomes 13million Europeans a year, mainly into the theme parks of Disneyland Resort Paris. This urban plan for a new quarter in Val d’Europe set out the basic organization of houses around public places, routes & site access. Houses were placed at the perimeter of urban blocks, thus defining spatially the street as public space. The perimeter boundary walls distinguished between public and private. The concept designs sought to define the major principles of scale, character, public spaces and the density of development. This neighbourhood plot was both complete in itself and yet, in the context of the whole town, unfinished, allowing for spatial functional incidents that connect the parts of a town.
