Profile

Stanhope Gate Architecture and Urban Design Ltd specialise in new build, master planning and refurbishment of substantial private houses, villas and apartments, listed and historic buildings as well as hotel and resort projects in the UK and abroad.

The working philosophy of the practice revolves around the guiding principles and innate wisdom of Classical and Vernacular architecture with traditional urbanism providing the right context.

It is our firm belief that architecture and building in the contemporary condition are inseparable from the fabric of tradition. At the same time we view tradition as thoroughly alive and extremely changeable. The creation of a sense of place and imbuing the built form with human scale, the quality of the architecture and detail as well as the relationship between the craft of building and art of architecture remains the focus of every one of our projects.

Recent commissions in the UK and abroad include, residences in Hampstead, the restoration and refurbishment of a grade I listed embassy in Belgravia; substantial grade II listed residences on the Cadogan and Grosvenor estates, Knightsbridge and St John's Wood. In the commercial sector the practice is involved in refurbishment of an office building in Mayfair, master plan and design for a new resort on the Danube Delta, a new residential complex in Bucharest, reconstruction of a private estate in Spain and new villas in Vence in the south of France.

Located in central London, the office is managed by the Principal, architectural and administrative staff and is equipped with the latest CAD software and electronic specification writing tools and document systems. Our management approach entails the involvement of the Principal and project assigned architects to each and every project to ensure a high level of service and attention to our clients at every stage of the process from design to on site contract administration.
